John J. Cook
Keeper of the List for the Thresher Family
John J. Cook spent eight years in the US Navy Submarine Service. He was assigned to the USS Thresher out of Submarine School but went to USS Skipjack for a short time until the USS Thresher returned to Portsmouth. He left the USS Thresher at the end of 1962 to attend Nuclear Power School. From there, John was assigned to USS Thomas Jefferson SSBN618-Gold. After 3 patrols I was assigned to the West Milton Training Site as an instructor where I finished my service.
John J. Cook joined GE Gas Turbine Division in Schenectady, New York and worked there for 31 year of which the last 6 were spent in Japan. He returned to the USA in February of 2000 and retired in June of that year. I became the Keeper of the List for the Thresher Family after we lost our friend and shipmate Kimo Ward.
