Enlisted 2 Jan 1941. Reported to NTS Newport for basic training as Apprentice seaman. Graduated as Seaman 2/c and assigned to USS CONSTELATION, Flagship of the Atlantic Fleet, the station ship for Newport.

Transferred to Radio School in San Diego for training as a Radioman Striker. Transferred to USS MINNEAPOLIS CA36 and assigned to the C Division. Promoted to Radioman 3/c in early 1942. Participated in fleet wide exams for Presidential appointment to the Naval Academy. Succeeded and transferred to Annapolis in August 1942. CA36 participated in Battle of Pearl Harbor, Air Action off New Guinea, Salamau & Lae, Coral Sea and Midway while on board.

Graduated USNA in June 1945, Ensign. USN and reported to Submarine School, New London.

Served on USS FLYING FISH (SS 229), USS SENNET (SS 408), USS COBIA (SS 245), USS BATFISH (SS 310) and USS BECUNA (SS 319). Held positions in all divisions and served as XO of SS 310 and CO of SS 408 & SS 319 (One year each).

Shore duty consisted of two years at Holy Cross College as Instructor Naval History 7 Orientation, two years at Naval Underwater Ordnance Station, Newport, RI as Fleet Applications Officer and Torpedo Range Officer and finally three years at Portsmouth Naval Shipyard as Assistant Administration Officer, Personnel Officer, BOQ Officer, with short stints as Communications Officer, Security Officer and Administration Officer.

Retired on 2 January 1963.

After retirement spent five years teaching High School Math in Exeter and Portsmouth. Founded two businesses, Custom Pools Inc. and Sentry Systems Inc. Completed thirty-five years in the security business (Sentry Systems)
Fully retired on 1 April 2000.

An active member of the Portsmouth Lions Club, Knights of Columbus [3rd & 4th degrees], Propeller Club, Navy League, New Hampshire Alarm Association [which I founded], The Retired Officers Association, Fleet Reserve Association, American Legion, United States Submarine Veterans Inc., and other veterans groups.

Born and raised in Haverhill Massachusetts [except for a three month period in Alberta when I was five years old].

Graduated from St. Joseph’s Grammar School, Haverhill High School, US Naval Academy and thirty credits of Post Graduate work in Math Education at the University of New Hampshire.

Currently residing at 57 Stratham Green, Stratham, NH.
