Hermann August Bautzmann was born Oct. 2, 1953 in Stamford, CT. Enlisted in the US Navy in January 1971. Reported aboard the USS Henry Clay SSBN 625 (G) Seaman Gang Oct. 1971. Qualified in submarines July, 1972. Transferred to IC (A) school Jan 1973 and onto IC (C) MK19 Gyro School July 1973. Served on the USS Sturgeon SSN 637 Oct 73 - Jan 75. Received a Bachalors of Science Electrical Engineering from the University of Connecticut in May 1980. He was employed as a Digital hardware and software design engineer at General Electric Ordinance Division in Pittsfield, MA as part of the the Trident II Fire Control System development team. Transferred to the Hughes Aircraft Company in Tucson, AZ June 1993 where he served as the Phalanx Close In Weapon System (CIWS) Chief Engineer during the development of an IR addition, a digital radar system upgrade, the SeaRAM Missile variant, and the Land Based Phalanx System (LPWS) which was and is the Rocket Artillery and Mortar defense of our troops deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan. Mr. Bautzmann retired in 2010 and moved to Portsmouth, NH in 2015. Mr. Bautzmann has been member of the Thesher Base since 2017.
